Great article! I wonder if Pierce as Caesar has been overlooked. Pierce was stabbed repeatedly in a war and we learn he’s the same age his father was when he died. I have considered the possibility that he and Emma have a child, who becomes her ultimate love, but I don’t believe Pierce is Emma’s end game.

Hawkes has a strong childhood connection to Emma’s dear Irish father, a heritage that Hawkes shares. Hawkes was given one of Emma’s father’s paintings (most likely of Emma), and the single Latin word on a piece of paper, presumably originally from her father. Hawkes shares many of Emma’s treasured interests and a mutual love of reading, poetry, the theater, and more. Hawks seems to have been groomed by Emma’s father as her eventual caretaker and ultimate love.

Well, yes, obviously, we love EML because of the Reprobates (and all the other rather wonderful men). πŸ˜… Lovely article, Lydia! I join you in wishing for Vol. 9. πŸ’•

Such a great article! I had to make an effort not to scream in the Shakespeare parts. Beth is truly amazing, I can’t wait for vol.9

What a great article! I especially love the Shakespeare links! I would only throw in one more possibility. Arabella is linked to Cleopatra as well in vol. 3 (from Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra). Islington is also linked to Mark Antony in vol. 3 too. This could be something or nothing. I like your theories too. Also the Fox and the bird lamp is mentioned twice. The second time is when Emma and Jack are walking traitors road after their escape from the gambling tables. -L
